Terms
The rules for using Lorestar, this website, your account and your license keys, kept short and plain. By using any of them, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
Last updated 15 October 2026
What these terms cover
- The software: Lorestar, the app you download and run on your own computer, including early access builds.
- The website: this site and its pages.
- Your account: the account you make here to get early access, download Lorestar, hold your keys and manage billing.
- Licenses and keys: the license keys that let Lorestar run, and the alpha keys that open early access and run it during early access.
"We" and "us" means [legal entity name: placeholder], which makes Lorestar and runs this site. "You" means the person using any of the above. If you use Lorestar for a group or a company, you're agreeing for them too, so make sure you're allowed to.
Your account
- Be accurate. Use a real email address you can read. We send confirmations, password resets and notes about your licenses there.
- Keep it safe. Keep your password and two-step codes to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else got in, change your password and tell us.
- One person per account. Don't share an account, and don't make one for someone else without asking them.
- Leaving: you can delete your account at any time on your account page.
Keys and licenses
- Your own computers. A license is for your own computers, up to the number of seats on it. Each computer that uses the key takes a seat; your account page frees one.
- Don't share or resell keys. Don't publish them, sell them, or use one key to get around its seat limit. Alpha keys are for the people they were sent to.
- The license check. Lorestar checks its key with this site when it's activated and now and then after that. It works offline between checks. The privacy notice says what the check sends.
- Payments go through Stripe. We never see your card details. Lorestar for your computers is one payment, not a subscription; Lorestar Maps' paid tier, once it opens, is a monthly subscription you can cancel from your account page; its city generation is free. The price is shown before you pay.
- Test mode. Before payments go live, this site may run a test checkout that takes no card and no money. Anything bought there is marked as a test, works only as long as we leave it switched on, and may be switched off when payments go live.
- Refunds: if a payment went wrong or you want a refund, write to us and we'll sort it out with you. A refunded license stops working.
Early access
Early access builds are early versions, provided as they are. They have bugs, and features can change or go away without notice. Lorestar keeps your worlds as plain files on your computer: keep backups of anything you care about.
What you make is yours
Your worlds, notes, maps and campaigns are yours. They stay on your computer, and we have no access to them. You're responsible for what you put in them, and for the content you bring from elsewhere: Lorestar bundles numbers and rule names only, not rulebook text.
Acceptable use
Don't use this site or your account to break the law, attack or probe our systems, try to get into accounts that aren't yours, or get around seat limits, license checks or rate limits.
Suspension and termination
- We can suspend or close an account, or switch off a key, if it breaks these terms, puts the service or other people at risk, or if the law requires it. When it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.
- If a key is switched off, Lorestar asks for a key again the next time it renews its license with this site, or when its current license runs out if it can't reach the site. Your worlds stay on your computer either way.
No warranty
Lorestar and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some places don't allow these exclusions; there, they apply as far as the law allows.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business, that come from using Lorestar or this website, or from not being able to use them. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50, whichever is more. Nothing here limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change matters, we'll say so here and, if you have an account, by email before it takes effect.
Governing law
Not decided yet: which law governs these terms and where a dispute goes. This is filled in before launch.
If you live somewhere whose consumer laws give you rights these terms can't take away, you keep those rights.
Questions about these terms, refunds or anything else: [contact email: placeholder]. You can also reply to any email we've sent you.
